This is a man of courage. His name is Chris Jewell. I photographed first and introduce myself to him in Burleigh Heads and asked a few questions: Chris was a heavy drinker and smoker which caused diabetes. Most of his left leg was amputated to save his life. Depression set in – the black dog barked day and night. Since then, five days a week, five times a day, in his wheelchair, he pushes himself up the steep Burleigh Heads headland hill. He pushes his body to the limit. Up and down he goes, each time moving faster and faster until he is totally exhausted. Then he rests and takes in the view. What pisses him off is he can’t get a job. “It’s because I’m in a wheelchair – it’s as simple as that – but life is still good…somehow I reckon I’ll get there .” Gold Coast, Australia.
